McKinley, located between Gilbert and Biwabik, is primarily a small residential community offering limited services, but nearby McKinley Lake offers recreational opportunities.
The defining features are the view and environment along the Mesabi Trail. Rural and rustic, natural woods on high rolling hills abound.

Parking just steps away from the Mesabi Trail entry point kiosk. NOTE – there is a gap with no paved trail between McKinley & Biwabik. Heading west – there is paved tail connecting to Gilbert. Heading east – detour to the shoulder of Hey 135 to get to Biwabik. Construction completion expected by the end of 2023. There is paved trail again starting east of Biwabik.
