Access Points

Grand Rapids Access Point

From combined Highways 169 & 2, turn north onto 3rd Ave NE to Itasca County Fairgrounds. Direct Trail access and parking are located at the north side of the fairgrounds.

Taconite Access Point

For access to the Mesabi Trail™ from Highway 169, exit north onto Hwy 15. Trail access is at Bennett Street. Parking is available at the Community Center and on Bennett Street.

Eveleth Access Point

For access to the Mesabi Trail™ from Hwy 53, exit west onto Hwy 37/Fayal Road. For parking, turn left at Fayal Pond Park, or continue on to Fayal Ave. and follow the signs to Southside Park.

Marble Access Point

For access to the Mesabi Trail™ from Hwy 169, turn north onto Co. Rd. 80/Alice Avenue.  Trail access and parking will be .5 miles on left, just past the ball field.

Virginia Access Point

For access to the Mesabi Trail™ from Highway 53, exit east onto 9th Street North. Travel .3 mile to the kiosk and parking on the left.

Nashwauk Access Point

For access to Mesabi Trail™ from Highway 169, turn north onto Hwy 65 to the parking lot on the west side of the road. Trail access is directly across Hwy 65.

Bovey Access Point

For access to the Mesabi Trail from Highway 169, take 2nd Ave. W. or 2nd Street exits west to 2nd street.  Turn north onto 1st Ave. W.  Trail access is on left, and parking is available on 1st Ave.

Aurora Access Point

For access to the Mesabi Trail™ from Hwy 100/West 3rd Ave. North, the trail kiosk is located at the junction of Hill Street. Parking is located at Pine Grove Park to the south.

Kinney Access Point

For access to the Mesabi Trail™ from Hwy 169, exit north at Hwy 25 and continue .3 mile towards downtown. Trail access and parking lot are on the left.

McKinley Access Point

For access to the Mesabi Trail™ from Hwy 135, turn south onto County Road 20. Parking is located one block to the south.

Pengilly Access Point

For access to the Mesabi Trail™ from Hwy 169, turn south onto Hwy 65. Trail access and parking is available immediately to your right.

Mt. Iron Access Point

For access to the Mesabi Trail™ from Hwy 169, exit north onto Hwy 102 and travel .75 mile into downtown Mountain Iron. Turn left on Main Street, then turn right onto Mountain Ave. Trail access and parking is located one block ahead.

Hibbing Access Point

For access to the Mesabi Trail™ from Highway 169, exit west onto Howard Street. Follow Howard Street to 3rd Ave East. Turn right and continue .5 mile. Trail access at Greyhound Bus Museum parking lot on the left.

Tower Access Point

For access to the Mesabi Trail™ from Hwy 169, turn south onto Pine Street. Parking is available at the Civic Center, and Trail access is located two blocks away. A brand new section of 3.5 miles of Trail was completed fall of 2014 through the new Lake Vermilion State Park. In 2015 another 1.5 miles will be completed connecting to Soudan.

Soudan Access Point

For access to the Mesabi Trail™ from Hwy 169, turn north into Breitung Monument Park. Parking and restrooms are located here. A brand new section of 3.5 miles of Trail was completed in the fall of 2014 through the new Lake Vermilion State Park. In 2015 another 1.5 miles will be completed connecting to Soudan.

Biwabik Access Point

For access to Mesabi Trail™ from Biwabik, travel east approximately one mile along Highway 135. Trail access and parking is available on the right at the northwest corner of Embarrass Lake.

Coleraine Access Point

From Hwy 169, turn onto Curley Ave for .3 mile (following signs to the Mesabi Trail). Trail access is on the north side of the intersections of Cole Ave, Gunn St, and Curley Ave - between the red & white buildings. Parking for the Mesabi Trail is at Longyear Park - turn right onto Cole Ave, the park is 2.5 blocks away.

Gilbert Access Point

For access to the Mesabi Trail™ from Hwy 37/Broadway Street, turn east onto Wisconsin Ave. for trail access. Restrooms, parking and water are located at Sherwood Forest Campground.

Ely Access Point

For access to the Mesabi Trail™ from Hwy 169, turn north onto N. Central Ave/Pioneer Road and continue for three blocks. Trail access and parking is on the right.

Buhl Access Point

For access to the Mesabi Trail™ from Hwy 169, exit onto Pennsylvania Ave. or Forest Street. Trail access and parking is located at State Street and Culver Ave.

Keewatin Access Point

For access to the Mesabi Trail™ from Highway 169, exit onto Hwy 82/7th Street and continue north approximately .3 mile. Trail access is at 3rd Ave. and 7th Street.

Chisholm Access Point

For access to the Mesabi Trail™ from Highway 169, exit onto 4th Ave SE to Lake Street, veering left. Parking is on Lake Street and 1st Ave. SE.

Calumet Access Point

For access to the Mesabi Trail™ from Hwy 169, turn north onto Gary Street.  Continue three blocks north to City Park/Depot Center.  Parking is available here.

McKinley Access Point

For access to the Mesabi Trail™ from Hwy 135, turn south onto County Road 20. Parking is located one block to the south.
