10-9-25 Construction Starts
Construction updates for Fall 2025:
KGM construction will begin storm damage repairs near Hwy 97 on Oct 9th. Two culvert washout locations will be the first project. The trail will be closed from the Mesabi Station in Eveleth to Hwy 97 for a few days while crews are doing their work. When that project is completed, work will begin in the Voyageurs Retreat section of the trail at Giants Ridge to fix the numerous sinkholes. Again, this section of trail will be closed from Voyageurs Retreat Road to Hwy 135. There are no viable detours through these areas, but the work will be completed before the end of the year.
Northland Construction will begin repairs on the bridge near Giants Ridge Road where the trail turns toward Aurora early next week. This bridge has needed these repairs for a while now. Please watch for the construction equipment and workers while out enjoying the cool fall temps. The bridge crossing will be closed. If there is a viable detour route, it will be marked. Updates will be posted as the project progresses.
