Volunteers are the backbone of our tour series!

The tour series just couldn’t happen without our dedicated army of volunteers, many who have been with the tour for 15 years!

But, we always need to recruit new troops – so whether you a returning veteran, or a new recruit – THANK YOU for your interest in volunteering for the Great River Energy Mesabi Trail Tour Series!

Besides bragging rights for being part of one of the BEST bike tours in the state, volunteers also receive a tour t-shirt, lunch at the finish line, and where volunteers task allow – free entry into the tour (with a limited number of riders allowed this year…free entries may also be limited).

Volunteer tasks include:

  • Tour Prep – packing rider information packets the week before the tour.
  • Tour Morning – handing out those packets & t-shirts the morning of the tour before folks start their ride.
  • Course Marshals – situated out on the tour course – directing riders, we DO NOT stop traffic…but rather hold riders at critical crossings until it is safe for them to cross.
  • Trail Hosts – riding in the tour – offering assistance as needed, anything from giving directions and answering questions about the area, to calling for medical or mechanical assistance.
  • Rest Stops – staffing a rest stop – serving food and beverages to riders.
  • Merchandise – selling merchandise at the end of the tour.
  • EMS – providing First Aid at rest stops, the finish line, and shadowing riders in a vehicle.
  • Bike Repair & Sag – coordinating with our providers.
  • Photos – getting some great shots along the tour route.

As the situation with COVID-19 continues to change (looks like for the better!), we are monitoring closely and will implement any guidelines needed to keep riders & volunteers safe at all times. As each tour get closer, volunteers will be informed of policies and procedures.

A volunteer meeting will be held a few days before each tour. You will receive everything you need for tour day; t-shirts, equipment, supplies, policies & procedures.

We will be in touch about four weeks before each tour to give you all the details about about your assignment.
