For access to the Mesabi TrailSM (see map)
Along the Trail, 19 miles east of Grand Rapids is Calumet, population 382. It is a short half mile to Pansas Lake, where you will find public access and a boat launch. There is a library, post office and city hall in the downtown area.
Calumet is home to the Hill Annex State Park which provides a view of the mine and has a museum/gift shop. Daily tours of the mine are given from Memorial Day to Labor Day. A shovel from one of the giant steam shovels used in the mines is also on display.
On the third Saturday of July, the town celebrates Calumet Miners Day with a parade, vendors and a dance.
